Working, working, working...

It's been longer than I would have liked since the last blog...

Where to begin? Since my last post I delivered a string of outdoor pieces including Shows in San Angelo ( the juried Salmon exhibition, the Marble Falls outdoor show , and a new outdoor show in Palestine, TX. I have also started fabrication of the Bull and Bear portion of the Texas Tech project.

I also have a number of commissions I am working on. In short the studio is full!

I also managed to go on a long weekend dove hunting trip to Argentina with the Albany group. It was fantastic! I can't believe it's already April. I am already dreading the hot days of summer that are rapidly approaching.

Thanks for reading, Joe B

A New Adventure

PictureInstalling in Chicago.
This is the first of what I hope will be an ongoing blog adventure for Red Star Studio.  I recently hired Bridge PR to rebuild my website and this blog is one of the many results of the update.  Where – where to start?

The Fall is always busy with a large number of shows in the works.  I have been working long hours in the relentless heat to complete pieces for various shows.  I just had a one-man show open at the end of August at UTPB in Odessa, Texas comprised of indoor pieces.  I just delivered an outdoor piece to the Form in Flora III show in Chicago, Illinois that is being held at the Lincoln Park Conservatory.  This show is in conjunction with the International Sculpture Conference (the conference will be held October 6-8 in Chicago).

Did I mention that it is and has been damn hot! welding in the studio?!

I will also be having a two-person show at the University of Texas at Tyler in October together with Suguru Hiraide, the sculpture professor at Midwestern State University.  The title of this show is “East Meets West”.  Suguru is Japanese and… well.. I am West Texas.

I also have to find time between now and the end of September to take a new piece to the outdoor show in Jewett, Texas – that sculptor, Terry Jones puts on.  That about covers the current shows I am participating in.  There is one more that I would like to participate in – at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.  The museum is having a monumental-scale juried outdoor sculpture show that will feature 10-12 pieces.  The selected artists will be a part of a conference panel in San Angelo.  I have finished two large pieces to photograph and submit.  I think this will be a really good show to be a part of!

Now the part I need to be working on!  I have a number of commissions that have just been completed or are in-process.  This month I completed a 20 foot long Buffalo Skull for Frontier Texas! in Abilene.  Then in August I completed a stainless steel dove for Hendrick Hospital in Abilene.  Along with those, I have 3-4 smaller commissions for individuals around the state along with the Texas Tech commission for the Rawls College of Business.  My partner on the Tech project and I are just about to begin construction in Lubbock with a completion date of June 2013.

If you have any questions about anything in this blog or any of the pieces please contact me.
